AAOE Coding Camp: A Workshop to Appropriately Code for Proper Reimbursement

Offered in collaboration with the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO)

Now in its seventh year, Coding Camp takes place concurrently with the Academy's Annual Meeting as part of the AAOE course offerings. These intensive sessions are designed to enhance participants' knowledge of appropriate coding and documentation in order receive proper reimbursement. Members and non-members can attend the AAOE Coding Camp without registering for the 2009 Joint Meeting. Two Coding Camp sessions are offered this year. You may register for one or both.

Coding Camp for Beginners


8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Fee: $235 Onsite Registration

Instructors:

Synopsis: A must attend course for all new ophthalmologists, technicians and coders. Or as a refresher course to make sure experienced physicians and staff know the current rules. This course will address:

  • Basics of CPT, Category II and Category II, HCPCS, and ICD-9 selection;
  • Modifiers in detail;
  • Special testing services, unilateral vs. bilateral, documentation requirements;
  • Guidelines for E&M and Eye Codes;
  • CMS rules and regulations to make sure your claims are paid correctly the first time.

Coding Camp Intermediate/Advanced Course

12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Synopsis:
This intensive three hour session will be of value to physicians, as well as to administrators, billers, coders, office managers, and other ophthalmic medical personnel - all of whom should be well educated on coding protocol. This coding camp will empower the entire coding team with information on the newest rules and regulations for documentation.

With coverage on all subspecialties, participants will learn to code exams, consultations, special testing services and major and minor surgical procedures. This course is taught at an intermediate/advanced level.
