EMM and ILM Peeling
By Steve Charles, MD
Retina/Vitreous
Dr. Steve Charles demonstrates peeling of the epimacular membrane (EMM) and internal limiting membrane (ILM). For EMM peeling, he stains with brilliant blue and begins with a double-layer peel using end-grasping forceps, a technique he calls "pinch peeling." He proceeds to the ILM, applying force tangentially to the retinal surface with the proper disposable forceps, and then extends peeling close to the arcades, avoiding residual striae. No pick or membrane scraper is needed.
