2009 Meeting Highlights & Tips
Convention Center Registration Opening Session Subspecialty Day Scientific Program Meeting Services Exhibit Hall Special Events Spouse and Guest Program Visitor Information Convention Center Most Joint Meeting and Subspecialty Day sessions will take place at the Moscone Center. The AAOE Program, YO Program and Professional Choices Job Fair will take place at the San Francisco Marriott hotel. Registration - Preregistration packets were mailed in late September to all attendees who registered before Aug. 26. If you do not receive your badge and materials before you travel to San Francisco, go to Express Registration in the North Lobby to have these items reprinted.
- If you registered between Aug. 27 and Sept. 30, go to Express Registration in the North Lobby to pick up your badge and meeting materials.
- After Sept. 30, you can register onsite at Registration Services in the North Lobby. View onsite registration categories and fees.
Opening Session - Sunday, Oct. 25, from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. in Moscone South, Esplanade Ballroom.

- "Perspective," by H. Dunbar Hoskins, MD FACS.
- Jackson Memorial Lecture:“Angle-Closure Glaucoma: Simple Answers to a Complex Mechanism” by Harry A. Quigley, MD.
Subspecialty Day - Search and view the schedule and presentation information for all Subspecialty Day meetings using the 2009 Subspecialty Day Online Program.
- View Refractive Surgery E-posters in the West, Level 2 Lobby.
- Your Subspecialty Day badge allows you to visit the Joint Meeting Exhibition on Saturday, Oct. 24.
- Flexibility to float among meetings — Register for the Retina or Refractive Surgery meetings and float among all Subspecialty Day meetings on Friday and Saturday. Glaucoma, Neuro-Ophthalmology and Pediatric Ophthalmology meeting registrants can float among all six meetings on Saturday only.
Scientific Program - Use the 2009 Joint Meeting Online Program to search and view the entire Scientific Program, including abstracts.
- More than 2,000 peer-reviewed scientific presentations, including Instruction Courses, Skills Transfer Labs and Breakfast With the Experts.
- Program features 649 scientific posters, 195 original papers and 51 surgical videos presenting the latest in ophthalmic research.
- More than 100 hours of free scientific sessions.
- View Scientific Posters Online and Videos on Demand at terminals located in The North-South Concourse, Booth W-5459 and West Level 2 Lobby.
- Download the Meeting E-abstracts containing the complete and searchable abstracts from the 2009 Final Program to your PDA at Technology Services, Booth W-5459.
- Report CME Credits earned or print a Proof-of-Attendance letter at terminals in the North-South Concourse, West Lobby or the Academy’s Resource Center (Booth N-3569). New this year: Claim credit from your hotel room.
Meeting Services - Be sure to pick up your official meeting bag containing the Final Program and other meeting materials at the Bags and Programs counter in the North-South Concourse. The Final Program is only available onsite.
- Enjoy free Wi-Fi access at the AAOasis in Moscone South, Room 105 or at Moscone West, Level 2 Lobby. Through the Academy’s Wi-Fi connection, access Posters Online, Videos on Demand, Message Center and the Virtual Exhibition.
- Check your e-mail, browse the Internet, print boarding passes or view the Virtual Exhibition—all through AAO Connect. Terminals will be located at Technology Services (Booth W-5459) or in the North-South Concourse.
- Leave and retrieve messages with fellow registered attendees through the Message Center, available Oct. 9 and at AAO Connect terminals onsite.
- Download the Meeting E-Guide containing meeting and program information, shuttle schedules and exhibitor listings to your PDA online and at Technology Services, Booth W-5459 or at Alcon’s booth, S-1501 during the Meeting.

Exhibit Hall - Use the Virtual Exhibition to plan your visit to the largest ophthalmic exhibit hall.
- Update your membership and review product at the Academy Resource Center, Booth N-3569.
- Stop by the Technology Pavilion, Booth W-5757, for informative presentations covering the latest in hardware devices, medical record software and mobile communications.
- Take a break from the meeting at the AAOasis in South, Room 105. Get free, fast, and reliable WiFi or enjoy a free massage at the Relaxation Station.
- Visit the Electronic Office: Integrating the Healthcare Environment (IHE) exhibit, Booth W-5159, for a demonstration of how electronic workflow and integrated systems function.
- International attendees are welcome to relax and obtain Joint Meeting information at the International Center, Booth S-100.
- NEW! Pick up a free copy of the Abstracts on CD from Alcon in Moscone South, Booth 1501. The searchable CD contains all abstracts from the Joint Meeting.
Special Events - View Alumni and Related Group Events and the Locator Map: Unofficial Satellite Symposia for events that will take place during the Joint Meeting. These lists will also be available at the Bags and Programs counter in the North-South Concourse.

Spouse and Guest Program Visitor Information - View ground transportation options to/from the airport.

- California law prohibits handheld cell phone usage while driving.
- Review the many activities including the restaurants, shopping, and entertainment available in San Francisco.
