Dr. Ahmed Abdelshafy Tabl illustrates the value of routine OCT scans in predicting outcomes of tractional retinal detachment (TRD) surgery in a 55-year-old diabetic patient with a history of decreased vision in his right eye that worsened after undergoing an augmentation retinal laser session 3 months prior. Serial OCT scans from the previous 3 years confirmed the stable presence of noncentral fibrovascular membranes, a condition exacerbated by the laser session. After the patient underwent a core vitrectomy and removal of all possible tractional membranes, his vision improved from counting fingers to 6/18.
