Busting Myths About Managing Narrow-Angle Patients

    Glaucoma Subspecialty Day 2022
    Angle-Closure Glaucoma, Glaucoma

After briefly reviewing angle-closure terminology, Dr. David Friedman shares 4 myths about managing angle-closure patients in this presentation from Glaucoma Subspecialty Day 2022:

    • Myth 1: Angle-closure suspects need to be treated right now.
    • Myth 2: Residual angle closure after laser peripheral iridotomy (LPI) needs to be treated.
    • Myth 3: Acute angle-closure patients only need LPI and medications.
    • Myth 4: All angle-closure patients should have cataract surgery.

Dr. Friedman concludes that LPI is often optional and that evidence from clinical studies does not support the routine use of laser iridoplasty, among other take-home messages.
