On January 31st, the FDA issued a warning advising consumers to avoid the purchase or use of South Moon, Rebright, or FivFivGo eye drop products due to concerns of contamination and the risk of eye infection. These over-the-counter drops look similar to Lumify eye drops by Bausch + Lomb, but they are not approved for sale or use in the United States. Agency-tested samples of 2 of these products were found to lack the active ingredient in Lumify (brimonidine tartrate), and 1 was contaminated by a potentially antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

While no adverse event reports have specifically mentioned South Moon, Rebright, or FivFivGo by name, reports of eye irritation and infection from potentially fake Lumify drops have been filed. The FDA is asking consumers to double-check their eye drops for authenticity and to properly dispose of any questionable products. Consumers are also reminded that eye products should only be purchased from reputable retailers. Anyone with symptoms of an eye infection should seek care from a medical professional.
