Another example of adaptation is the Foundation’s foray into virtual reality, harnessing new technology at the confluence of hardware and software and building on the ONE Network. Here we can apply the learnings from COVID, that training and education can be provided remotely, and use simulators to offer powerful new tools to advance practical, hands-on learning. Of course, it is not only about virtual education but how to adapt to a hybrid format combining both virtual and in-person experiences. For the latter, it is gratifying to report that the Truhlsen-Marmor Museum of the Eye, located beside the Academy’s offices, has been completed and is open to the public just as tourism is recovering. We are also raising funds for the Parke Center at the same location which will provide facilities and spaces for in-person training and education.
Following our long-time track record of providing educational materials globally through the Basic and Clinical Science Course™ (BCSC
®) and the ONE Network, the Foundation is looking to cooperate with other organizations to lessen the global burden of myopia.
Sincerely,
