In response to the steady increase of prescription opioid misuse, U.S. government agencies have enacted training requirements for clinicians on opioid or other substance use disorders. Beginning June 27, 2023, all new or renewing U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) licensees, will be required to check a box to affirm that they have fulfilled an eight-hour training requirement on treatment and management of patients with substance use disorders.
