Resection of Medial Fat Pad During Upper Blepharoplasty

Dr. Richard Allen performs a resection of the upper medial fat pad during an upper eyelid blepharoplasty procedure. Pre-aponeurotic fat is usually preserved unless there is significant expansion. However, if the medial fat is difficult to expose and mobilize, it is less likely to be resected. There is a risk of causing a hemorrhage that can be difficult to control during resection, and a retrobulbar hemorrhage could potentially occur if significant tension is placed on the fat.
