Accommodating IOLs, Single- and Dual-Optic: Do They Work?

By George H. H. Beiko, BM, BCh, FRCS
    Subspecialty Day 2011: Refractive Surgery

Dr. George Beiko compares outcomes from a series of accommodating lenses to determine whether any provides an advantage over nonaccommodating IOLs. Dr. Beiko's findings suggest that single-optic accommodating IOLs offer no advantage for near vision. Dual-optic IOLs, such as the Synchrony, do seem to provide improved, full range of vision after bilateral implantation.
