New Diagnosis of Leber Hereditary Optic Neuropathy

Dr. Valerie Biousse and Dr. Nancy Newman discuss Leber hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON), with a focus on what to tell a patient who has been recently diagnosed with this rare, progressive, sight-threatening disease. Dr. Newman describes how, as a mitochondrial recessive disease, LHON most often affects males but also has certain implications for females and their immediate family members.
