How can I prevent infection if a stye drained into my eye?
JUN 08, 2024
Question:
While applying warm compresses to my stye, it ruptured and drained into my eye. I dabbed it with a Q-tip and rinsed with rewetting drops (only thing I had on hand). Is there anything else I should do to make sure the infection doesn’t spread?
Answer:
Our tears help prevent infection. Rinsing your eye out with rewetting drops or any other eye-friendly product is a sensible thing to if you ever get something in your eye that doesn't belong there. In this particular situation, you shouldn't need any other treatment unless you were to develop any symptoms suggesting an eye infection (new redness, pain, or discharge).
