In this video from ASRS 2017, Dr. Carol Shields discusses insights into metastatic uveal melanoma gained through cytogenetic analysis. Following genetic analysis of tumors from 1,059 patients, Dr. Shields and her colleagues found that abnormalities in chromosomes 3, 6 and 8 were linked to significantly higher odds of metastatic disease. Dr. Shields shares that patients with older age, greater tumor size or ocular melanocytosis are at a high risk for cytogenetic abnormalities, and should be considered for investigational therapies.
