  • Medicare Administrative Contractors Are Auditing E/M Services

Multiple Medicare administrative contractors (MACs) are conducting Targeted Probe and Educate (TPE) audits on evaluation and management (E/M) services.

Established office/outpatient visits (CPT 99215, 99214, 99213) and subsequent hospital inpatient or observation care (CPT 99232) appear on active TPE audit lists for CGS, First Coast, Novitas, Palmetto, and WPS.

Are you proficient in the fundamentals of ophthalmic coding? The Academy provides resources for E/M documentation guidance and medical decision making. Fundamental training is also available through webinars, Codequest™ and the American Academy of Ophthalmic Executives® (AAOE®) annual meeting program.

AAOE, in collaboration with the Academy’s YO Committee, will present a live, three-hour training on June 28 covering the essential rules of coding for all subspecialties. Fundamentals of Ophthalmic Coding 2024 is ideal for ophthalmologists and their staff who are new to coding and is beneficial for more experienced practice professionals as a foundational refresher. Ensure audit success by providing your staff with essential training.
