Cornea/External Disease, Pterygium
Dr. Elaine Chong demonstrates a new tenonectomy technique that can be performed without the need for a surgical assistant. Traditional tenonectomy reduces the risk of pterygium recurrence, but requires a third hand. The new method relies on the pterygium’s fibrous tissue and its attachment to the cornea to stretch the tenons so that the surgeon does not need to immobilize the tenon. This leaves the surgeon with two hands available to excise the corneal growth.
