Tip: Prepare to Appeal Denials Related to Change Healthcare Event
As claims slowly cycle from practices to payers, many practices are reporting timely filing denials because of the Change Healthcare cyberattack.
The Academy continues to advocate for timely filing waivers be prepared to appeal promptly and efficiently. Make sure you:
- Collect and group claims into like denial batches.
- Be prepared to present a HIPAA-compliant consolidated spreadsheet that includes claim identification information to provide to the payers.
- Have documentation of when practice’s ability to submit claims ceased and when it was restored. Draft a summary of these events to provide to the insurance carrier.
- Request escalation of the batch of timely filing denials to be reviewed and resolved by the provider representative or medical director.
