  • Not Billing Procedure in Order to Bill Office Visits

A patient has weekly visits to assess and adjust the treatment plan for an extremely complicated corneal etiology. The office visits often meet moderate decision-making. Can a mitomycin intravascular chemoembolization (MICE) procedure be performed but not billed to eliminate the global period to bill each follow-up office visit instead?

    Answer:
It would not be appropriate to perform the procedure for free so that you can bill for the post-operative visits. Even if the procedure was not paid, any post-operative visits related to the surgery would still not be billable.
