    Cataract/Anterior Segment

Overmature cataracts represent an advanced stage of cataract development, characterized by significant morphological changes within the lens. These changes include decreased hydration, fiber degradation, and internal liquefaction, leading to capsule wrinkling and potential surface calcifications or cholesterol crystal formations. Such alterations can deepen the anterior chamber and severely impair vision, risking blindness if not addressed surgically in time. An exceptionally rare complication of overmature cataracts is the spontaneous complete dislocation of the lens nucleus into the anterior chamber. This image highlights the critical need for timely intervention in overmature cataracts to prevent severe complications and optimize visual outcomes.
